Don’t Count on Another Round of Stimulus Checks This Year
Remember when we got those stimulus checks way back at the start of the coronavirus pandemic? It seems like a lifetime ago doesn't it? Think it will happen again?
Our government has been talking about and almost teasing us that there would be another round of checks coming to Americans sometime soon. Although, at every turn lawmakers couldn't agree on the details of the stimulus package.
So, what's the latest? Well, I hate to be the barrier of bad news, but it's not looking good for us to receive any additional checks before the end of the year. It's really too bad with so many people out of work and struggling to make ends meet. I'm sure there will be a lot of people that will really have to stretch through the holidays.
lawmakers are negotiating a scaled-down deal, the popular stimulus checks aren't likely to be part of another round of aid. Lawmakers could still pass a stimulus bill before the Senate adjourns for its holiday recess on December 18, but even the most generous of the two proposals under consideration would fall far short of the $2.2 trillion Coronavirus Aid that was signed into law in March and which provided $1,200 checks to most Americans.
Instead of stimulus checks, the next round will likely focus on extending unemployment benefits, which will otherwise expire on December 26. There's still the hope of a stimulus check after lawmakers return in 2021, but a lot of the will depend on the coronavirus situation here in the United States and the world.
