I brought my nine-year-old son, Ryan, over to the Albany Pine Bush and we had a blast playing Agents of Discovery.

He thought it was cool because there is an interactive app that you use to travel through the Pine Bush and solve missions. It's kind of like Pokemon Go or Harry Potter Wizards Unite, but it encourages children ages 8 and older to explore nature and wildlife. It's based on the Karner Barrens Blue Trail, with most of the challenges around Trailhead #1.

To get started, you just download the Agents of Discover app and the Albany Pine Bush Preserve Mission. Both are free to download and once they're on your phone, you can play the game without using any data. They do encourage you to check the Albany Pine Bush Preserve Mission for updates that will provide new challenges.

While we made our way through the trail, interactive discoveries popped up and we had to figure out the animals and plants that live in the Pine Bush. There are even audio clues that helped us discover certain bird species that live there. I found it not only to be fun, but very educational and a great experience for the whole family.

When we were done, Ryan asked if next time he could bring a couple of friends along to solve the missions again. It’s a great way to have some family time outdoors while exploring the beautiful Albany Pine Brush. Give it a try for a fun family activity! Get started here.
