Celebrities Not Behaving Badly
There seems to be an overabundance of celebrities that make the wrong choices and end up in trouble or worse. It seems like that’s all we hear about in the news: celebrities behaving badly. I thought I would break away from that and mention some good things about celebrities.
1) Trace Adkins
I thought that I would start with Trace Adkins, since he had something terrible happen to him and his family. Casey told you about a fire that destroyed their home. They lost many personal belongings, on June 4.
He was on Celebrity Apprentice and raised awareness for the Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network. He also supports other charities including The Monroe Childrens Hospital at Vanderbilt, Animal Rescue Foundation and others. One more fact about Trace, he’s urging everyone who wishes to donate to his family, donate instead to The American Red Cross help the survivors of the recent floods and tornadoes in the U.S.
2) Oprah Winfrey
Probably the most powerful and richest women in the world, Oprah Winfrey has set up and donated to many causes in America and around the world. She also started the National Child Protection Act, which has established a national database of convicted child abusers. The "OPRAH BILL" came into law in 1993.
3) Paul Newman
One of the biggest notable things is about the late Paul Newman is “Newman’s Own.” You’ve seen his products in the supermarkets. From a story in USA Today, “the company gives all after-tax profits to charity, and has surpassed $300 million in charitable donations since its founding in 1982.”
He also was the founder of “Hole In The Woods Camps", to provide children with serious medical conditions, life-changing experiences, and always free of charge. One of the camps is right in our area at Lake Luzerne.
4) Mel Gibson
Even though he’s had his share of well-publicized troubles, Mel Gibson has also made several contributions to charity, including "Kidz Horizon Appeal" and “Healing The Children.”
5) John Rich
Another Celebrity Apprentice alumni, John Rich raised $1.2 million for "St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital." John continues to donate to St. Judes. We will have our St. Jude radiothon on WGNA in August.
What are some other celebrities that have contributed to charity?
