Capital Region Town Is One of the Safest In the Nation
One of our favorite Capital Region towns has been named one of the safest to live in the entire country.
Overall, we are blessed with so many great cities and towns to live in here in the Capital Region. We are talking about great communities that are among the safest to raise a family. But one small Capital Region town has risen above the rest to be among the safest in the United States.
And that town is...Stillwater! We know it best as the quaint little town on the Hudson River and the home of Saratoga National Historical Park (one of nation's most significant landmarks), and now safewise has recognized Stillwater as one of the SAFEST towns in the country. So why these rankings and why now to publish them? Safewise says they have "...discovered that many people are feeling the pull toward smaller towns amid the ongoing uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic."
So here is the nitty gritty: Stillwater landed at #47 on this list of 100 towns and the ranking from safewise was determined based on FBI crime rates for towns with a population of 5,000 to 15,000 people. Several other New York towns closer to Poughkeepsie and New York City also made the rankings.
First, kudos to Stillwater on this nice recognition. We get so settled in our routines, and yes the area does have its flaws, we sometimes lose sight that we live in a great region. Second, amidst all the pandemic craziness, it seems the housing market here in the area has remained strong. We have heard all the stories about folks leaving city areas to go more rural during the pandemic, and the way homes are selling in the Capital Region certainly backs that up. Add in the safety element and our access to nature, and it is no surprise folks are coming to the area.
