I'm as guilty as anyone of looking down at my phone for too long and sitting at a desk with poor posture for hours, so it's nice to use yoga to relax and strengthen my muscles.

Yoga isn't just something that helps in that moment of working out — it's not just making you stronger physically; it's making you stronger mentally and proves to yourself what your body can do if you push yourself.

I've been practicing yoga for a few years now, but I recently had the chance to do a one-on-one session at Best Fitness with instructor Toni. Here's a few things I thought about after our workout:

1. I love how welcoming the space is. No matter if you're a certified teacher taking a class or it's your very first time, everyone is there to support you and help you grow.
2. I like that it's a different kind of workout. It's not just running for miles or lifting large amounts of weight, it's also a workout for your brain. I find myself using things I've learned in my yoga practice in my every day life (breathing, focusing, etc).
3. It's truly a practice with yourself. There's no competition in yoga. You don't compare how much weight you lifted or how fast you ran a mile, you compete with your own body and as you grow and improve in the postures, you're only beating yourself.
4. It's relaxing and grounding. It's a great workout to do to start off the week or to ground yourself after a long and stressful day at work.
