On January 1st, a new law became effective in the state of New York regarding disposal of electronic waste. It is now illegal to put the following in the trash: VCRs, DVD players, fax/copy machines, computers, and televisions. When you have things you need to have disposed of you can check the manufacturer to see if it can be recycled or you need to contact one of the electronic recycling sites. I know the Colonie Landfill does accept most items but you can check the list below for a location closer to you!

The E.P.A. is also encouraging people to donate their old electronics because they say:

Electronic products are made from valuable resources and materials, including metals, plastics, and glass, all of which require energy to mine and manufacture. Donating or recycling consumer electronics conserves our natural resources and avoids air and water pollution, as well as greenhouse gas emissions that are caused by manufacturing virgin materials.
