Natalie Stovall and the Drive Talk Band Beginnings

Natalie Stovall and the Drive may sound like they’ve been playing together since childhood, but the band hasn’t even been together for a decade — yet. In this Taste of Country exclusive, they share how the band was formed and when they knew they had magic together.

Comprised of lead vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Stovall, drummer James Bavendam, guitarist Miguel Cancino, Zach Morse on bass and vocals and guitarist and vocalist Joel Dormer, the group began with two people — Stovall and Bavendam — who met in college.

“He actually asked me why I didn’t have a band yet … so we started a band,” shares the fiery blonde beauty. “We moved down to Nashville and we put an ad on Craigslist and found Miguel.”

When he joined the band, they found Morse through a friend, who introduced them to Dormer. It’s a web of connections that spun itself into a band, although they didn’t know at the time if it was something special.

“It wasn’t necessarily an immediate ‘this is the band,’ that chemistry took a while, and we were playing tons of shows on the road,” she explains. “After just a little bit, we started to realize there was something different, something special, about this group.”

The ‘Baby Come on With It’ band just released their second single ‘Mason Jar’ off their debut EP, which is available for purchase on iTunes.
