Here is the Daily Dilemma from 4/2/12:

My mom lives out of state, and recently she's gotten pretty ill. My dad died not too long ago and she sort of let herself go.

I wanted to take some time off of work to go home and take care of her, so she can get back on track.

I asked for three months of unpaid leave. My company said no to my request, and they told me if I took it anyway, I'd be fired.

I don't understand what the big deal is. It's just a few months, and they don't even have to pay me.

Is it wrong for my company not to give me the time off to help my mom? Shouldn't I be able to take a leave of absence if it's unpaid?
