A local teen is in trouble with the law after he allegedly blew up a mailbox.

The incident happened around 12:30 a.m. this morning (June 29) in the Town Of Waterford, on Fonda Road.

The person that witnessed it was actually a police officer while he was on routine patrol. The officer reported that he saw someone throw something out of a car window on Fonda Road, which caused the mailbox to explode and be destroyed. It turned out that it was actually an M-80, which was allegedly lit and tossed by the teen.

It didn’t take long for the officer to quickly investigate the explosion and make an arrest. The suspect, 16-year-old Richard J. Swinney from Cohoes, ended up with several charges, including Arson in the fifth degree, Criminal Mischief in the first degree and Unlawful Possession And Use Of Fireworks. According to the story from New 10 ABC, Swinney was sent to the Saratoga County Jail after his arraignment in Waterford Town Court.
