It always surprised me that school buses only had lap seat belts or some, none at all. Well it may be mandatory soon to have safer measures on school buses including better seat belts. According to News 10 ABC, the National Transportation Safety Board is recommending that school districts follow new guidelines when purchasing large school buses. These buses will come with both over the shoulder and lap seat belts.

Recently, several school budgets were passed and included in them was the purchase of school buses. Shenendehowa will replace nineteen buses. Bethlehem will need fifteen, East Greenbush nine, Niskayuna six and Scotia-Glenville will replace five buses.

The three point seat belt will be the most safe for children traveling on the bus. The NTSB says that these will help lessen injuries with rollovers and side impact accidents. All New York school buses are required to have lap belts but these new guidelines will require the over the shoulder belts to make the children are safer.
