John Rich Argues GPS Monitor Is Necessary for Accused Stalker

A judge has ordered Mark Sevier to wear a GPS ankle monitor until he can be mentally evaluated. In addition, he is also prohibited from mentioning singer John Rich, as well as a 17-year-old he is also accused of stalking, on social media.

Rich was in the courtroom last week and spoke about his fears and the benefit of the GPS device.

The Tennessean reports that Judge Casey Moreland decided in favor of the monitor, even though Sevier hasn’t made violent threats toward either Rich or the teen he was accused of following in September.

Still, Rich was clearly unnerved by the 36-year-old’s actions.

“I am afraid of what he might do,” the Big & Rich singer admits. “I have a two-year-old son. I have a four-year-old son. That is the basis of my fears, that is, my kids … it’s red alert in my house.”

Rich and Sevier have had legal issues for years, but the stalking case came to a head in June when Sevier was arrested following two 2012 restraining orders. Rich contacted police in April and provided emails and photographs to officers that he says proved the order had been broken. After being released on bond, Sevier was arrested again in September for allegedly stalking the 17-year-old employee of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream shop.

The Boot reports that Sevier says the teen is just jumping on Rich’s bandwagon. He frequented the Ben & Jerry’s because it was near Vanderbilt University’s undergrad library, which, as an alumni, he often uses to access reference material. “I like ice cream, not minors,” he quips.

Sevier is himself an aspiring musician who was involved in the music business for some time in the early-to-mid ’00s. He is also a lawyer, but he’s not allowed to practice in Tennessee due to PTSD related to time served in Iraq.
