Aldi is planning on opening a new location in Glenville.

Everyone loves a new store, especially a new supermarket. A little competition is goes to help drive that grocery bill down, right? (Glenville already has a Hannaford and a Market 32/Price Chopper.

According to the Daily Gazette, Aldi has put plans in front of the Glenville town board for a new store to be located right across route 50 from the Price Chopper/Market 32. The land use to be occupied by Glenville Tile and a pharmacy.

The article says the current plans that have been presented are only conceptual, and something more detailed would need to be submitted for final approval by the town board. So at this point there is no real target date when you and I would actually see the store open.

So what is Aldi you are possibly asking? The Aldi website describes the supermarket as the following:

While a typical supermarket carries about 30,000 items, we sell only the weekly must-haves – most of which are our high-quality brands. Smaller inventory means smaller stores, which leads to lower rent and electricity costs. This allows us to pass the savings on to you.

So there ya have it! This will be Aldi's 7th Capital Region location. There are already existing locations in Colonie, Amsterdam, Schenectady, Clifton Park, Rensselaer and Ballston Spa.
