This morning on the air we discussed a list that's floating around the internet of the top New York towns to raise your family in.

It's a list put together by Niche.com, and we all were not quite sure how this list happened. We couldn't make much sense of it.

According to the site, schools are ranked..."based on school ratings, crime rates, age demographics, and access to affordable housing and childcare. A high ranking indicates that a town attracts young families with good schools and a safe community."

There were only two towns from the Capital Region in the top-15!

Here are the top 15:

  • 1.  Mount Hope -Orange County
  • 2.  White Plains - Westchester County
  • 3.  East Aurora -Erie County
  • 4.  Chittenango -Madison County
  • 5.  Geneseo -Livingston County
  • 6.  Crawford -Orange County
  • 7.  Hornell -Steuben County
  • 8.  Fredonia -Chautauqua County
  • 9.  Canton -St. Lawrence County
  • 10.  Corning -Steuben County
  • 11.  Penn Yan -Yates County
  • 12.  Cheektowaga -Erie County
  • 13.  Coeymans -Albany County
  • 14.  Glens Falls -Warren County

Gloversville, Albany, Schenectady, Troy and other local towns made the list, mostly in the 50s! I live in Latham and I picked that town because of family-friendly vibes, how did Latham not make the list? Sean's from Clifton Park and that's not on there either! And Richie has Niska-pride, but his town's not there either!

I'm originally from western New York, so I know there are a lot of beautiful places out west to raise your family, but now I'm from here, and darn it, I think it's pretty great!

Do you think your town should have made the list?
