A Troy man that’s been considered to be a serial burglar and persistent violent felony offender, had his day in Rensselaer County Court.

Shannon Lee Bruce has a history of allegedly breaking into various homes, using hammers, sledgehammer and crowbars.

As far back as 1994, he was accused of being part of a group that broke into mausoleums and also going to grave sites and taking plaques, and even a bronze nameplate.

Last year, there was a story about a child in Troy that saw someone at his neighbor’s house after he heard some noises. The child called the police. The person that was spotted was allegedly Bruce. In this case, a hammer was used to break into the house. In addition to allegedly breaking into the house, attempting to steal things from the house, he was eating some pizza that was in the kitchen. Bruce took off from the house after he noticed that he was discovered.

According to the story in the times Union, earlier today, Bruce was sentenced in Rensselaer County Court. He’ll be spending 12 years in prison.
