Winter Storm Warning Issued for October Storm
It's hard to believe that we're already delivering this news but Mother Nature continues to be nasty to us in 2011 as we are facing a pretty severe winter storm and it's only October! After the jump read the warning from the National Weather Service in Albany as well as some information you may need to know as the storm rolls in. For starters - make sure you have some sort of radio and batteries for it or even better download our app for mobile phones, radioPup which will help you stream our station.

Winter Storm Warning remains in effect from noon Saturday to
6 am EDT Sunday... * locations... southern Vermont... Berkshires... the Schoharie
valley... eastern Catskills... greater capital region...
helderbergs... Taconics... Litchfield Hills... and Mid Hudson
valley.
* Hazard types... moderate to heavy wet snow
* accumulations... 4 to 8 inches for valley areas of the greater
capital region... and Schoharie valley. 6 to 12 inches for the
Mid Hudson valley... Connecticut valley of southern Vermont...
and valleys areas of Litchfield County Connecticut. 6 to 12
inches across elevations greater than 1000 feet with locally
up to 15 inches across the eastern Catskills... Litchfield
Hills... Berkshires... and southern Green Mountains.
* Timing... a mix of rain and snow will begin late Saturday
morning and quickly change to snow by afternoon. Snow will
continue heavy at times before tapering off by late Saturday
evening.
* Impacts... heavy wet snow could bring down numerous Leaf
covered limbs... trees and power lines. The potential exists
for widespread power outages from the capital region
southward... with long duration power outages possible across
the Mid Hudson valley and Litchfield County Connecticut. Roads
will become treacherous for travel by Saturday afternoon.
* Winds... north to northeast winds at 10 to 20 mph... with gusts
of 30-40 mph possible across the Mid Hudson valley and
Litchfield County Connecticut.
* Temperatures... mid 30s on Saturday morning falling to the
lower 30s by afternoon and upper 20s by Saturday evening.
* Visibilities... reduced to one half mile or less in the
moderate to heavy snowfall.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A Winter Storm Warning means significant amounts of snow...
sleet... and ice are expected or occurring. Strong winds are also
possible. This will make travel very hazardous or impossible. You
should prepare for possible long duration power outages.
