When the Power Goes Out Onstage, Steve Moakler Goes Acoustic [WATCH]
Steve Moakler isn't about to let a little thing like a power outage stop him from playing for his fans; after all, the show must go on, as they say. At a recent concert in Knoxville, Tenn., the singer was put in an unexpected situation when the lights went out ... but that didn't stop him from performing.
According to a Facebook post from Moakler, the power was out for more than an hour at his April 5 concert in Knoxville, so the artist and his band treated fans to an unplugged performance. Moakler shared video of the scene on his Facebook page the following morning: In the clip, which readers can watch above, he can be seen playing his single "Suitcase" in the middle of the crowd -- lit by the lights of cell phones -- with fans singing along.
“Some of the most fun I’ve had in a long time," Moakler writes on Facebook. "All we need is each other and some songs. And the little lights on our cell phones …"
"Suitcase" appears on Moakler's recently released album Steel Town, which hit shelves in March. The project pays homage to Moakler's hometown of Pittsburgh, Pa.
“I didn’t realize how unique it is until I traveled to hundreds of other towns,” Moakler tells The Boot of his upbringing. “I think the thing that strikes me about Pittsburgh is the fact that it’s a blue-collar place. It’s a place where people are very proud to be from, but not for any reason other than, I think, the heart of it.
“I think, for me, it’s the sense of place, where people are proud of how hard they work, proud of what they built, and, obviously, the sports,” he adds. “It’s a city of champions, and I think that’s kind of put us on the map.”
Steel Town is available for download via iTunes.
