If you are looking for a thrilling ride this spring and summer how about riding the longest mountain coaster in the United States? Not far from the Capital Region, it runs to the bottom of Mt. Van Hoevenberg. It's the Cliffside Coaster in Lake Placid.
The New York State Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA) was created in 1980 to oversee the facilities associated with the Olympics. They continue to make sure the facilities are purposefully reimagined to keep the communities and mountains enticing. Now they are involved in making a new ride at Gore mountain, the largest in the state.
Winter is here and there is nothing more fun, in my opinion than finding the biggest hill and going sledding on. You can get some serious sledding in just two-and-a-half hours from the Capital Region at the Lake Placid Toboggan Chute.
This home has gorgeous fall views and sits in the shadow of Whiteface Mountain in Lake Placid. It's a new build that is just off the 16th golf fairway. It has an affiliation with all of the Whiteface Club Resort amenities. This home is steps away from the golf clubhouse with a restaurant. It has Lake Placid lakefront sandy beach, tennis courts, and two more restaurants. There is golf, tennis, a boat marina, and the sandy lakefront all included. Right outside the front door are cross-country ski trails and hiking. You could have this new-build house for just $1.3 million.
This time of year everyone loves a good ghost story. So, here's a unique one from Lake Placid that is based on the true story of a woman disappearing in the lake in 1933, and her amazingly preserved body recovered by divers 30 years later.
This sprawling twenty-three-acre property overlooks Lake Placid at Brewster Point. It is called the Adirondack Grand Lodge and has the most beautiful woodworking throughout this seven thousand square foot main house. There are multiple stone fireplaces and custom log work. There is also a guest house, a 5 slip boathouse along with an entertainment area above. There are an in-ground pool and multi-vehicle garage. Plus a two-story elevator if you don't feel like using the stairs. This property is one of the most dramatic and largest in the Lake Placid area. Take a look.
There is nothing like flying down snow or ice-covered hills when you are sledding. Wouldn't it be even cooler to speed down the longest toboggan chute in New York State? This isn't for the faint of heart. It's been in operation since the 1960s and it's only a two and a half-hour drive from the Capital Region.
