Randy Travis and the Avett Brothers Unite for New Installment of ‘CMT Crossroads’
Despite his pending legal troubles, Randy Travis hopes to return the focus to his superstar music career with an appearance on an upcoming new episode of 'CMT Crossroads.' The 'I Told You So' will converge at the 'Crossroads' with the critically-acclaimed folk act the Avett Brothers for an installment of the popular CMT series, which is set to debut on the network next month.
The pairing of the two dynamic music acts is rather fitting, considering Scott Avett's recent admission that country music -- and Travis, in particular -- helped shape the sonic style of their most recent album, 'The Carpenter.'
"And then even things like Alan Jackson, [Randy] Travis, George Strait and those things through the ’80s and 90s that were just playing all the time," Avett exclusively tells Taste of Country of the country acts that have influenced the band. The singer admits that 1410 AM (country legends) in Concord is one of his go-to stations when shuffling through the radio.
Travis and the Avett Brothers will perform some of the most memorable hits from the country superstar's impressive discography, which includes includes 16 No. 1 songs. The two acts will also tackle a few tracks from the folk group's growing catalog of hits, including cuts from their 2012 album, which debuted at No. 4 last month on Billboard's Top 200 album chart.
'CMT Crossroads' has paired country music superstars with some of the biggest names in the music world for more than 40 episodes of the popular series since its debut in 2002. Filmed on location in Nashville, the new installment will premiere on CMT on Nov. 23 at 11PM ET.
