New Music Venue with Rooftop Dining Proposed for Schenectady
Jay St. in Schenectady is a cool little gem in the city. It's made up of by a number of eclectic little shops and restaurants. Plus it's located downtown, so a quick walk to City Hall, Bow Tie Cinemas or Proctors.
Soon, there could be a new restaurant/bar/music venue opening at 116 Jay St., right next to Jay St. Pub and directly across from City Hall. Mitchell Ramsey, who runs the Jay St. Pub is spearheading the effort to convert the now vacant building next door. It's a small space, but he believes it will serve the kind of audience looking for an intimate music atmosphere.
The idea is it’s going to be a small music hall a few nights a week — midlevel bands, some jazz
The proposal is scheduled to be presented to the Schenectady Planning Commission on February 16th. If approved, the downstairs portion of the venue would be called 'The Station' and the roof will be 'The Platform'. The roof portion of the proposal isn't a sure thing, but Ramsey says he will continue with plans for 'The Station' even if 'The Platform'.
In addition, Ramsey and the building's owner Noah Smith are working with Schenectady Metroplex on a possible $25,000 renovation to the front of the building. The interior was renovated in 2018 when Smith bought the long vacant property.
No opening date has been announced but both Smith and Ramsey are anxious to get it started pending the approval of the planning board. They believe if approvals happen, they can get the work done quickly.
