Miranda Lambert Previews Certified Platinum Tour at Intimate Nashville Gig
Some very lucky Miranda Lambert fans got a special treat in Nashville Tuesday night (Jan. 13).
After rehearsing for her upcoming tour all week, the 'Smokin' and Drinkin'' singer took to social media to make a surprise announcement to her fans:
According to Nashville's Tennessean newspaper, Lambert told the assembled crowd that she and her band "were just ready to play for some people" when they took the stage just three hours later, thanking the fans for waiting outside in the cold.
Lambert led her band in a no-frills set in the venerable Nashville club, performing a wide mix of songs including uptempo favorites like 'Mama's Broken Heart' and 'Gunpowder and Lead,' as well as slower numbers like 'The House That Built Me' and 'Over You.' She also performed songs from her latest album, 'Platinum,' including 'Automatic,' 'Smokin' and Drinkin'' and 'Priscilla.'
At one point the set, a male fan threw himself onstage, clinging to a piece of equipment as security finally pulled him away and threw him to the floor.
"Someone just got tackled," Lambert said, adding, "It's not really a club show if someone doesn't get tackled, have a cat fight, or get thrown out. This is where I got my start."
She let her band members take the lead on a few songs, too, with former 'The Voice' contestant Gwen Sebastian performing an acoustic cover of the Cranberries' 'Zombie,' and Lambert's bass player leading a cover of 'Bad to the Bone.'
Lambert also joined Sebastian on a cover of Little Big Town's current single, 'Girl Crush,' which you can see in the video above. She rounded out her show with covers of ZZ Top and Wilcon Pickett's 'In the Midnight Hour.'
The singer has been making the rounds of smaller venues of late; in December she and her husband, Blake Shelton, played a surprise acoustic gig for about 80 people at her bed and breakfast in Tishomingo, Okla.
Lambert's Certified Platinum Tour is set to kick off Thursday (Jan. 15) in Evansville, Ind.
