If you live in the city of Albany, New York and you have struggled to find parking spaces it looks like things are going to open up for you.

Just announced this week, Mayor Dorcey Applyrs will be adding over 700 new resident parking spaces for people who live in the city and may find parking near their residence to be a bit challenging. She is certainly living up to her promise of helping city residents, while at the same time trying to bring life back to Albany.

The new spaces for resident permit parking comes within a one mile radius of the Empire State Plaza. The reason behind it is to increase the amount of spaces for people who live in that area and decrease the amount of stress they have when trying to find a parking space.

The expansion becomes official on February 14, aligning with the annual parking permit renewal date. Enforcement on newly added roadways will begin in March.

The following streets are where the newly added spaces will be

  • Knox Street Alley
  • Madison Avenue
  • Dana Avenue
  • Sheridan Avenue
  • Orange Street
  • Morton Avenue
  • Washington Avenue
  • Bradford Street
  • Morris Street
  • Myrtle Avenue

If you've ever struggled to find parking and are a resident of these areas near the Plaza you'll hopefully have more luck in finding a space. It can be challenging to find one near your home in those areas with so many people who go to that area for events and other happenings in the city.

The one thing that will be more challenging for others will be finding those coveted free parking spaces in the evening and at night for things happening around the Plaza. It looks like this will force many from outside of the city to pay for garage parking, or find street parking more than a mile away from a venue like The Egg.
