Carrie Underwood Goes Home to Empower Young Girls [Watch]
Carrie Underwood returned to her hometown in Checotah, Okla., to talk to three young women about their journey and involvement in sports. The result is featured in an emotional four-minute clip for Underwood's clothing line, Calia by Carrie where the superstar is shown empowering young women.
"This is probably the only place in the world that I truly feel at peace," Underwood says while driving around her hometown. "This is home."
Throughout the video, Underwood is shown running on her high school track while local girls are riding horses, playing on the softball field and talking with the singer about their love of sports and how it keeps them grounded.
"If I didn't have sports I don't know where I'd be, I don't know what I'd be doing," one girl admits. This is all something Underwood knows firsthand, as she grew up playing softball and basketball.
"Sports gives young women so many life lessons that they will carry with them forever. You learn how to win, you learn how to lose. It teaches you how to be a part of a team. It teaches you how to be proud of yourself," the superstar stresses. "Those are all things I learned playing softball and basketball and being part of team sports."
Later, Underwood gets emotional while driving around and talking of the importance of encouraging young women and raising them to be confident.
"Confidence is something we should be encouraging and teaching our young women. Lifting them up and helping them figure out what path they want to be on, that everything is possible. I think I would want to tell 14-year-old Carrie that all of the things that you think matter so much, someday you won't really think about," she says, holding back tears. "It's all gonna work out pretty awesome. I consider myself so lucky and I'm so thankful that I have so many wonderful people around me and I always have. My parents and this town. They've always been behind me."
