Brad Paisley Honors Late Chuck Berry With ‘Johnny B. Goode’ [Watch]
The music world lost an icon on Saturday (March 18) with the death of Chuck Berry, and Brad Paisley took time during his show that night to honor the late rock 'n' roll icon. During the country star's performance at the Runaway Country Festival in Kissimmee, Fla., he decided to cover Berry's classic 1958 rock hit "Johnny B. Goode."
Paisley kicked off the song with the legendary "Johnny B. Goode" guitar riff as a photo of Berry was displayed behind him. He then walked to his microphone stand to sing. After the first verse, Paisley continued to demonstrate his shredding skills to the crowd as he walked the catwalk with his guitar in hand and fans cheered him on.
“Johnny B. Goode” was a Top 10 hit on the Billboard Hot R&B Sides and the Billboard Hot 100 charts for Berry. It was also named one of Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs of All Time and was entered into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999.
Berry's influence on rock music is undeniable, but his impact also spanned genres. In 1969, Buck Owens covered "Johnny B. Goode" and it reached No. 1 on
Billboard's Hot Country Sides chart.
The rock 'n' roll icon was born on Oct. 18, 1926 in St. Louis, Mo. He died Saturday afternoon after being found unresponsive. Berry was 90 at the time of his death.
Paisley is gearing up for the release of his 11th studio album, Love and War, due out April 21. The singer recently received his 24th No. 1 single with "Today," which will be featured on the release. "Today" marks the 21st No. 1 song that Paisley has written.
