Taste of Country Writer, Sister Station Receive 2013 CMA Broadcast Awards Nominations
Among the nominees announced for the 2013 CMA Awards were radio stations and on-air personalities, chosen as the best in the business. WGNA afternoon host and Taste of Country writer Kevin Richards was honored for a third straight year. Additionally, station WYRK in Buffalo, N.Y. was chosen as a as a nominee for CMA Radio Station of the Year, medium market.
Both Richards and the WYRK staff will learn if they've won next month, so they have plenty of time to get to Nashville to collect their trophies. Richards has been at WGNA in Albany, N.Y. for 18 years, working from 10AM to 3PM Monday through Friday, in addition to doing a Sunday morning classic country show.
"I focus on country music and spreading positivity during the show," he told Taste of Country last year.
You may recognize Richards as the man responsible for some legendary Top 10 lists. He's the in-house classic country guru, and was a valuable voice in assembling lists like the Top 100 Country Songs of all time. At the 2013 CMA Festival in Nashville, Richards hosted three separate panels on the CMA Close Up Stage, and had a chance to interview stars like Charley Pride, Crystal Gayle and Lee Greenwood.
WYRK in Buffalo is also a repeat nominee. On their website, they jokingly compare themselves to other famous celebrities who are often nominated, but haven't won -- the Buffalo Bills, the coyote from Looney Tunes and famously Susan Lucci. It took Lucci 19 tries, but the actress did finally win one in 1999. In addition to being a market leader, the longtime country station hosts the Taste of Country concert every June.
The WYRK staff includes Clay Moden, Dale Mussen and Liz Mantel on the Breakfast Club, as well as Brett Alan, Wendy Lynn, Rob Banks and Dean Sarago. They also feature Taste of Country Nights Radio with host Jeremy Robinson.
