Have you ever noticed how much louder commercials are then the actual programs on television? It has always bothered me that I have to turn down the volume when my shows go to commercial then back up when the show comes back on. Good news that ends today because CALM is now a law.

CALM stands for Commercial Advertisement Loudness Mitigation. The act is designed to prevent TV commercials from blaring at louder volumes than the program content they accompany. The rules govern broadcasters as well as cable and satellite operators.

So beginning today we should be safe from excessively loud commercials. If you believe a station is in violation of CALM you can report them to the FCC website.
