The New York State Public High School football championships are set this weekend for the Syracuse Carrier Dome. It's down to 10 teams from high schools across New York State, not including Long Island or New York City. The five match-ups this Friday and Saturday will feature 3 teams from Sections I and IV each, with one representative from Sections II, III, VI and VII filling out the bracket. A link for tickets and television information are listed at the bottom.

Let's get to the games! The Class D championship kicks off the action on Friday at noon with Section VII winner Moriah facing Section IV champ Tioga. Moriah is the team that took down the powerful Greenwich Witches from Section II. Their opponent Tioga absolutely pounded Section V Class D winner Oakfield-Alabama/Elba 49-6 last Friday in the semis.

The 3pm game on Friday could be one of the best battles of the weekend in the Class A championship. Section I champ Somers handled Section II powerhouse Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake 48-14. They are really good and they will be facing Section III perennial power Christian Brothers Academy-Syracuse. This will be fun and there will be a big crowd.

Around 6pm on Friday, the town of Schuylerville will be locked in to see their their Section II Black Horses take on the explosive Section IV champ Chenango Forks, who beat Section V winner East Rochester-Granada 39-18 last weekend to advance. However, the Horses have a bit of explosiveness of their own, as seen last week when they blew out Section I champ Dobbs Ferry 52-14. Schuylerville head coach John Bowen will join The Drive with Charlie & Dan on Friday to preview the game.

The Class B championship starts off the Saturday action kicking at noon. That battle features Section I Pleasantville, who just got by Section II champ Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk 15-7, taking on Section IV winner Maine-Endwell. Maine-Endwell pounded Section VI's Western New York Maritime/Health Sciences Charter 41-8.

The battle of the AA's for the crown comes on Saturday at 3pm. Section I Carmel will take on Section VI's Bennett/Olmsted/Middle Early College/East Football. Carmel is very good. They beat CBA-Albany 51-7 back on November 19th in the state regionals. Bennett is riding an eight game winning streak into the match up.
