The Endless Battle To Stop Lou Gehrig’s Disease – Something That Really Hits Home

ALS  stands for Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. It's basically Lou Gehrig's Disease.  Many, many Americans suffer from it and succumb to it.  I know of two cases right off the bat The one that comes immediately to mind?  My own father, Morton.

I won't go into the details. There's plenty of material on the web that you can delve into to read about it, including possible breakthroughs.  There's still a long way to go, and it takes many more victims in the process.

Another person who comes to mind in this community was the late Jim Michaels of the Michaels Group.  You'd have to live under a rock to not know who they are.  They've been building  homes in the Capital Region for the past 60 years.   I've gotten to know the family, having entertained at several of their family functions, including Jim's retirement party years ago.

He also succumbed to this illness, and have made it an ongoing mission to raise funds to continue research into this area at St. Peters Hospital in Albany.
