In a story from ABC News, Dawson died from complications from cancer.

His son, Gary posted this statement on Face Book this morning - “It is with a very heavy heart that I inform you that my father passed away this evening from complications due to esophageal cancer. He was surrounded by his family. He was an amazing talent, a loving husband, a great dad, and a doting grandfather. He will be missed but always remembered…”

Dawson known for kissing almost all the ladies for luck on ‘Family Feud’, was also a regular on the 1970s game show ‘Match Game’. Another roll that he was known for was portraying the Cokney POW, Cpl. Peter Newkirk in the sitcom ‘Hogan’s Heroes’. He also was on several other shows including the Dick Van Dyke Show.
