Crews are currently fighting a fire at the Old Howard Johnson hotel building on Route 9W in Albany.

According to the Times Union,  firefighters rushed to the scene around 2pm and the fire could be seen at several vantage points around Albany, including from the Corning Tower.

The Times Union article says the site has redevelopment plans in the works for a new hotel and shopping center. According to officials no one needed to be taken from the scene in an ambulance, but the roof of the structure did collapse and crews are staying on site into the evening hours. Hopefully all of our firefighters stay safe fighting the blaze, and I guess the silver lining here is this complex is set to be replaced soon anyway!
