Can a five-year-old be the grand marshal of the holiday parade? This very special child   can!

I saw this in the Times Union this morning, and it warmed me up much better than my coffee. Lucas Defabio will lead the  Ballston Spa Business & Professional Association's Holiday Parade at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 6.

Why does he get the chance to do this? He has an illness known as Menkes disease and November is Menkes Awareness Month.  He won't have to go it alone, however. Of course his parents and his brother will be right along side.

Infants that suffer from this have an inability to metabolize copper.  Often it is fatal if not caught early.  We hope and pray that this is not the case with Lucas.

A standing ovation to the the Ballston Spa Business and Professional Association for giving him a chance to shine.  I can't think of a present in the world that would mean more to him than this!  You can learn more about the disease from Wikipedia.org.
