Maybe Jessie James Decker should record her own version of 'Stand by Your Man.'

The country singer hotly defended her husband, New York Jets wide receiver Eric Decker, against some critical social media posts on Wednesday (Oct. 29) before deactivating her account.

It started out innocuously enough, when the former Bronco posted the following message to Jets fans on Twitter:

What followed was an outpouring of sarcasm and frustration from Jets fans, who have seen their team struggle through a very disappointing season that has so far left them 1-7.

According to Newsday, Jessie didn't take kindly to that, posting, “You think he really cares what y’all think haters? He’s laughing his a-- alllll the way home.... Life is pretty good here. Can’t complain.”

When that kicked off another round of heated tweets, the country singer clarified her position, writing, "We embrace the jets fans and couldn't be happier to be here! Things will look up!! The haters are another story ... Get it straight.''

She later deleted her account.

For his part, Decker says the initial tweet was his idea, not suggested by the team. He adds that he was not surprised at the fans' reactions.

"You've got to expect that, obviously," he observes. "Everyone's entitled to their opinion. I don't think it's against the law to try to unite or reach out to fans. When you're in the position you are, people obviously enjoy winning a lot more than losing. I get that. But they still love the team aspect."

Fans had high hopes for Decker when he signed a five-year, $36.25 million free agent deal with the Jets in March, but he's been hampered by a hamstring injury, catching 31 passes for 363 yards and three touchdowns. "Not what I expected from myself," he admits. "Been fighting to get back as healthy as I can and I feel like I'm turning the corner and getting there."

He adds that he still believes things are going to get better.

"To be honest with you, I did not see us at this point," Decker says. "In the offseason, we had the pieces. We're just not, obviously, performing on the field. Execution is the name of the game in this league ... We've made too many mistakes. It is what it is. We are 1-7. We know why we're here. We've got a lot to play for yet."

Things have been brighter off the field. James gave birth to the couple's first child, Vivianne Rose, in March, and released a new EP, 'Comin' Home,' on April 18, hitting No. 1 on the iTunes country chart on release day.
