Emblems of Devotion: New York State’s Civil War Battle Flags, 1861-1862. Huxley Theater - Adults free. New Yorkers rallied around the flag to express public support for the Union and its preservation. Christopher Morton, assistant curator at the New York State Military Museum, will showcase early Civil War period flags presented by, and representing, local communities. The flags, serving as windows to our past, will teach us about the trials and sacrifices faced by New Yorkers.
