2002- Awards are presented for the 2001 voting year, and Brooks & Dunn take Entertainer of the Year, Top Vocal Duo and Video of the Year for ‘Only In America’ at the Academy of Country Music Awards. Alan Jackson is Top Male, Martina McBride is Female Vocalist, and Lonestar claims best Group. During the show, Alabama also announces that they intend to retire after a 2003 farewell tour.

2000- Garth Brooks’ “Double Live” sets a new record for country concert albums, as it’s certified for shipments of 13 million units.

1958- After ‘Great Balls Of Fire’ and ‘Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On’ hit No. 1 on both the Country and Pop charts, Jerry Lee Lewis arrives in London, where he admits he’s married his teenage cousin, Myra. He’s booed offstage and forced to cancel 34 of his 37 scheduled concerts.
