Saturday, July 28th is the National Day Of The Cowboy.  This was started by American Cowboy magazine in 2004 to "preserve, protect and promote cowboys and Western heritage and lobby for the passage of a national resolution designating the fourth Saturday of every July a permanent celebration on the national calendar honoring cowboys and cowgirls for their enduring contribution to the courageous, pioneering spirit of America".

Country music and Cowboys go hand in hand, so in honor of this day I thought I would give you some of my favorite Country songs that honor the American Cowboy.

1. Should've Been A Cowboy -- Toby Keith

This was Toby's very first hit and the biggest song on the 1990's. I think many of us dreamed of being a Cowboy when we were young.

2. Whatcha Gonna Do With A Cowboy -- Chris Ledoux And Garth Brooks

Not too many people knew who Chris Ledoux was until Garth Brooks mentioned him in his song "Much Too Young To Feel This Damn Old". This duet with Garth helped resurge Chris' career in the 90's. On top of everything else, Chris was a true blue Rodeo Cowboy!

3.  The Cowboy Rides Away -- George Strait

One of my all-time favorite George Strait songs. If you have ever been to at George Strait concert, you know that he always will end his show with this one!

4. The Cowboy In Me -- Tim McGraw

Even if you are from the city and you have never rode a horse, everybody has a little cowboy in them. This song solidifys that fact.

5.  Mamas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys -- Waylon Jennings And Willie Nelson

You can't have a list of Cowboy songs with out this all-time classic. The title says it all!

There are so many other great songs about cowboys, What are your favorites?
