Trace Adkins to Appear in Movie Based on MercyMe Hit
Trace Adkins has signed on for a role in the new movie I Can Only Imagine. The film is being based on the hit song of the same name by Christian group MercyMe.
In I Can Only Imagine, Deadline reports, Adkins will share the screen with Cloris Leachman and Dennis Quaid; in late January, the singer shared on Instagram a photo of himself and Quaid that was snapped on set. The movie is set for release in the spring of 2018 and is being directed by Jon and Andrew Erwin, the same directors with whom Adkins worked for the film Moms' Night Out.
"I Can Only Imagine" became a huge hit in the early 2000s: It's been certified double platinum -- the first song in the Christian music genre to do so -- and earned two GMA Dove Awards in 2002. Additionally, the song charted on the Billboard Hot 100, Adult Contemporary, Adult Top 40, Mainstream Top 40 and Country Songs charts.
Adkins is no stranger to the silver screen: In November, another movie in which he starred, Stagecoach: The Texas Jack Story, was released -- just one in a long line of films in which the artist has appeared.
Musically, Adkins recently shared a brand-new tune, “Watered Down,” as the first single from his forthcoming new album, Something’s Going On. The singer's 12th studio album, Something's Going On will drop on March 31; the record was produced by Mickey Jack Cones, and songwriters featured on the project include Tyler Farr, Craig Campbell and more.
