New York State High School Basketball

Being a high school coach is not easy these days. In most cases, you are certainly not doing it for the money. In addition, you have the responsibility for the "health and well-being" of your student-athletes. That means knowing and understanding the implementation of First Aid. Looking for the signs of someone in trouble; performing CPR properly and operating an AED machine, can be the difference between heroics and tragedy. An assistant high school basketball coach and an athletic trainer found out the hard way that they were ready for anything.

Last year, high school seniors in New York State played their final basketball games in mostly empty gyms with masks covering two thirds of their friends and coaches faces. The mask part won't be much different for now but full gyms are expected and even encouraged in 2022. That is a good thing for everyone involved, even if you still can't see the smile.

Joseph Girard III will play his final game ever for Glens Falls High School this afternoon.  Lines will begin forming shortly around Cool Insuring Arena for what has become must-watch local high school hoops.  6,000 people will pack 'JG3's House' today as Glens Falls takes on Cardinal O'Hara this afternoon at 4pm in the NYS Federation B Championship.
