Summer is just around the corner, and the call for lifeguards is ringing out across New York's beaches and pools.

If your teen, a young adult, or maybe you need a summer job, this could be the one. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation is looking to hire more lifeguards for the summer.

The odds of a shark attack being fatal is 1 in 3,748,067. You have more of a chance of dying from being struck by lightning, a car accident or the flu. However, in recent years a man was killed by a shark off of a beach in Cape Cod and a New York City woman suffered a deadly attack in southern Maine. If you are an ocean swimmer these days on the beaches of New York, you may want to keep your eyes open for some deadly friends. Two people were bitten within 72 hours off the southern coast of New York's prestigious beaches this week.

There are city pools that are waiting for guidance on when they can open because of COVID-19. Albany City pools have decided that their opening date will be June 26th. They usually open earlier, but because of the pandemic, they have to wait to make sure they are prepared for whatever protocols are required. They will, however, start to fill the pools next week.

If you live in the Town of Clifton Park, you will have a community pool to bring your family beginning in June. Last year pools were limited due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This year officials are optimistic that they will be able to have a full season. However, there are some setbacks.
