Miranda Lambert ‘Thrilled’ to Be a Female Leader in Country Music [Watch]
Always using her voice to encourage empowerment, Miranda Lambert is speaking up after her big 2017 ACM Awards wins about the emotion she put into her songs on The Weight of These Wings and being a trailblazer for women in the industry.
In a video posted by the Grand Ole Opry, Lambert talks about the album's first single, "Vice," revealing it was the first time she and songwriters Shane McAnally and Josh Osborne had written a song together. "It was a really hard day for me," she admits, adding that McAnally thanked her at the end of the day for letting them use her life for a story.
"To me, country music is about truth," Lambert continues, "it's about what's really going on, whether it's happy or sad or somewhere in the middle." Though she says her life was at one point more sad than happy, it's now moving "in a different direction."
"But I'm really glad that people can relate to an emotion like that," she adds.

In addition to picking up the award for Album of the Year, Lambert made history with her Female Vocalist of the Year win, making her the first artist in history to win it eight years in a row. She was tied with Reba McEntire for the most wins. "I can't even believe that I can say that really, to be honest," Lambert says humbly.
The country star has also never been shy about being an advocate for women in the music industry, and opened up on the topic again after the awards show. "I'm really so thrilled that I can help lead the charge for women in this business at any level," she says. "I'm so thrilled that I can keep pushing forward and making way for other women to do the same thing...I'm just really humbled by it."
Lambert also made a statement at the 52nd annual awards show with an incredible solo performance of her stirring ballad, "Tin Man."
