Man Falls Off Embankment, Breaks Leg and Lands In This New York River
Man breaks leg after falling 20 feet and landing in a river. New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and other rescue agencies work to extract the man from the water. Here's what happened.
On Friday June 6th, according to a press release, a 61-year-old man from Virginia was fishing in Essex County when he lost his footing, tumbled into the Ausable River breaking his leg along the way. Imagine trying to rescue yourself from a powerful river while dealing with a broken leg. Luckily help was on the way.

At approximately 5pm of Friday June 6th Essex County 911 contacted Ray Brook dispatch regarding the angler from Virginia. DEC officers responded to the location at the base of Whiteface Mountain between the gondola and the pump house.
Forest Ranger Adams used an inflatable kayak to reach the subject with help from members of the Wilmington Fire Department on the bank of the river. They used the kayak to transport the 61-year-old from Virginia to the other side of the river.
On Thursday June 5th, in a case separate from the angler that fell into the river, a search party was formed after a young child ran off into the woods in Delaware County.
A family called 911 to report a missing 3-year-old who had run into the woods and hadn't been seen on an hour. Forest Rangers responded to assist with the search for the child. After an hour of searching volunteers located the child approximately one mile from the point they were last seen. The child was evaluated by EMS and determined to be in good health.
