It's been a historic summer for severe weather in New York, and another devastating storm was added to that tally total last week.

The National Weather Service has confirmed that another tornado touched down in Upstate New York. Per a report from New York Upstate, the storm that hit the town of New Paltz on Friday night did indeed produce a twister.

The EF-0 tornado touched down at 5:51 p.m. on Friday, August 9th, and lifted from the ground one minute later.

News 12 Westchester's meteorologists provided more information about the storm on Saturday morning in a post that was shared on X:

This was the 27th tornado to touch down in New York this year, per Spectrum News. We've all witnessed history this year, as no single year has had more tornadoes touch down in the Empire State than 2024.

The previous annual record was 25, which was set in 1992.

That's not the only bit of weather-related history that we've witnessed this year. As we wrote about last month, 20 tornadoes were confirmed to have touched down in New York in the month of July alone.

That was the highest number of reported tornadoes in the state for any month of July since records began in 1950. The previous record was 13 tornadoes, also set in 1992.
