“It’s Been a Pleasure”: Popular Halfmoon Deli Closing After 30 Years
Beloved Halfmoon Deli Closing After 30 Years
After three decades of serving the Halfmoon community, Sorrentino’s Delicatessen & Market has announced it will be closing its doors on October 5th. It's hard to lose an excellent deli, especially one that has been entrenched in the Capital Region for so long.
Whether you popped in there for some quick take-out on your way home from work, or they catered a special party for your family, or an important work event, Sorrentino's in Halfmoon will be missed.
Health Reasons Impacted Hard Decision
Owner Rich Sorrentino shared the bittersweet news on Facebook, citing health reasons and the need to slow down. While the Halfmoon shop will close, customers can still visit their South Glens Falls location, which will remain open.

“It’s amazing how fast 30 years can go by,” Sorrentino wrote. “Between myself and my staff, we have made some great friends and loyal customers over the years, for which we are grateful. This was not an easy decision to make, but it’s necessary… I want to thank everyone for an amazing 30 years.”
The announcement sparked an outpouring of comments from loyal patrons who grew up with Sorrentino’s.
Family Traditions
Customers recalled the deli’s famous roast beef subs, breaded chicken cutlets, and Italian sandwiches, while others shared personal stories of family traditions tied to the shop.
One longtime customer wrote, “So sad to see this. My mother shopped there when I was a kid & anytime I am in the area, I try to pop by… You will be missed for sure.” Another added, “Our girls knew your store as the ‘ham and cheese’ store when they were little. Best breaded chicken cutlets in town!”
Others praised Sorrentino and his staff for being more than a deli, calling the Halfmoon location a true staple in the community. “Yo, Sorrentino’s the best damn deli/market period. Thanks, Rich & staff, for amazing 30 years!” one comment read.
While the loss of the Halfmoon location saddens many, customers also expressed relief that the South Glens Falls shop will continue the Sorrentino’s tradition.
For Sorrentino, it’s the end of an era in Halfmoon, but certainly not the end of their legacy.
