Granville, New York musician Phil Hoyt is hosting a very special concert on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at Veterans Park in Granville to benefit the 'Adopt A Soldier' campaign.

We recently had the chance to visit with this popular Washington County singer/songwriter.

How Does The Adopt A Soldier Program work?

People donate cash and/or items, then care packages are put together for the troops overseas.  They do help out the families of the soldiers, if needed.

Are you a Veteran?

I was in the army and spent 3 years stationed at West Point Military Academy working in transportation.

You have become quite popular in Washington County as a singer/songwriter.  Describe your style of  music for people who are new to the music of Phil Hoyt.

I would best describe my music as original traditional country with an old-time sound.

Who are your favorite singers in Country Music?

Merle Haggard, Johnny Horton, Hank Thompson, Hank Sr., and Randy Travis.

In your opinion, what is the best original song that you've written?

My favorite song was inspired by the soldier they found in Maryland and is buried in the Saratoga Cemetery, in the  tomb of the unknown soldier. I will be performing it at the benefit concert, "The Unknown Soldier".
