Facebook Saved A Life On Costa Concordia Cruiseship
What a disaster in Italy, huh? It really hit home for me, as we were just there on a cruise last month that left from Rome! It really makes you stop and think. What would you do in a case like this if you were caught in the bowels of a ship that's tilted on it's side? I wouldn't have thought of Facebook, but someone did!
According to DigitalTrends.com,
"A dancer stranded on the foundered Italian cruise ship typed out on her FB page: “My name is Rose, and I’m one of the last survivors still on board the sinking cruise ship off the coast of Italy. Pray for us to be rescued."
I guess it worked and was rescued just a few hours later. So much for people who "poo-po0" social media! Glad she didn't use Google Plus! (joke)
But seriously, it makes you think of the power you have right in your pocket these days with a smartphone. I know that many people refuse to upgrade from their old trusty 5 year old flip phones, but for emergencies especially, these things are becoming must haves. (You can listen to us anywhere! That should be reason enough!)
