Have you ever wished for the fame and fortune of a music star?  As we go through our daily routine of getting up for work way too early, rushing through the day to get everything done, and barely having enough money to cover our bills, we can't help but wonder how much better life would be with millions of dollars and a staff to take care of our daily chores.  Well, according to Billy Ray Cyrus,  fame and fortune is not all it's cracked up to be!

In 1992, Billy Ray Cyrus hit Number One for 5 weeks with "Achy Breaky Heart."  Then, the song exploded on the pop charts and he was selling out arenas in record time.  As the years went on, he continued to make music and play concerts while exploring an acting career by playing "Dr. Clint Cassidy" on the successful PAX-TV show Doc.

Then, came the event that would make the entire Cyrus family a pop culture sensation, The Hannah Montana TV show.  With daughter Miley as Hannah and Billy as the TV dad, the Cyrus family seemed to have everything that many people dream of everyday.  Not only were they household names, but Miley was bringing in millions of dollars on top of the TV show with her name on clothing, games, and anything that would sell to her massive fan base.

It would appear that other than the occasional tabloid story, the Cyrus family had it made with all the money in the world and what appeared to be a glamorous lifestyle.  Well, Billy Ray Cyrus recently admitted to GQ Magazine that he wishes the Hannah Montana television show had never happened!  When asked if the show destroyed his family, here's what Billy said-

"it destroyed my family. I'll tell you right now—the damn show destroyed my family. And I sit there and go, 'Yeah, you know what? Some gave all.' It is my motto, and guess what? I have to eat that one. I some-gave-all'd it all right. I some-gave-all'd it while everybody else was going to the bank. It's all sad."

Billy confessed these feelings while sitting alone in his giant Tennessee mansion, where he resides alone after his marriage dissolved.  In addition to these heartbreaking comments, Billy wants to stress that he NEVER made a dime off of his daughter's character Hannah Montana.  When asked if he wishes the show had never happened, Billy was quite forward with this response-

"I hate to say it, but yes, I do. Yeah. I'd take it back in a second. For my family to be here and just be everybody okay, safe and sound and happy and normal, would have been fantastic. Heck, yeah. I'd erase it all in a second if I could."

Billy also admits that he took a beating everytime the tabloids, press and critics pointed their fingers at him when Miley was caught up in a scandalous story.  Mr. Achy Breaky Heart felt like he was always being attacked and people were blaming him for something that was beyond his control.  I'm sure fathers of teenage daughters can relate to the struggles of raising a teenager, and appreciate how tough it must be to do in the spotlight with everyone watching and judging your actions.

Next time you're daydreaming about fame and fortune, remember how this dream tore one family apart.  While I was writing this blog, I couldn't help think of the old Country Classic by Porter Wagoner called "A Satisfied Mind."

"How many times have you heard someone say
If I had his money I would do things my way
But little they know that it's so hard to find
One rich man in ten with a satisfied mind"
