It was just a couple of months ago I had written a blog about "Far From Over",a horse I was so excited to see in this year's Kentucky Derby. Far From Over lived up to the name coming back from a bad start and blowing by the competition at Aqueduct to become a favorite to compete in this year's derby, but a hind lag fracture has that horse sidelined and it's time to look for another horse to be my favorite in this year's big race.

The wait for a new favorite may be  over. Dortmund is now 6 - 0 with an incredible finish in the Santa Anita Derby, blowing away the field and running the mile and an eighth at a fast, 1:48.73.

I think the thing that will stand out the most for recent track goers of course is the pedigree. Dortmund is the son of Big Brown a horse that most thought for sure would be the Triple Crown winner if he wasn't "eased up" in the Belmont for what later was reported to be a loose shoe. That "DNF" was the only of Big Brown's 8 races he didn't win.

So, is Dortmund my sure fire favorite for the Kentucky Derby this year? Not yet, but it sure looks promising. I will feature a few more great horses between now and the Derby and let you decide for yourself who you like , but to better help you why not take a look at this performance at Santa Anita.
