Winter doesn't bother me at first – the snow just adds a special touch to the holiday season, and getting the electric blanket and fireplace going again can be nice.  But after a couple months, the cold makes it harder for cars to start, you have to scrape the ice off the windshield and you get tired of paying the heat bill!  So, in case you are thinking of an escape, or you just like to fantasize about a warm beach like me sometimes, here are 5 warmer places to take a winter vacation to help you get out of a winter rut:

1. Playa del Carmen, Mexico

Playa del Carmen is a popular beach destination with both European and American nightlife and hotel culture.

2.  St. Martin and St. Maarten

Both St. Martin and St. Maarten offer the stress-free destination you’re looking for in a Caribbean vacation.  You can easily pass between the Dutch and French side of the island, so you can enjoy everything the destination has to offer.

3. Puerto Rico

You can enjoy the 20 foot waves for surfing or visit calm and clear waters to swim with your family in Puerto Rico.  It’s a quick 3- hour flight from Miami and you can shop in San Juan without having to exchange your bills for a foreign currency.

4. Fort Lauderdale

Fort Lauderdale used to be known for being a spring break party destination, but around 2006, it was revamped and has become a family-friendly beach getaway.

5. Costa Rica

If you’re looking for a rain forest experience with diverse wildlife and pretty white sand beaches – Costa Rica is a good option.  There are all-inclusive beach resorts, or wilderness lodges placed deep in the rain forest for the more adventurous types.
