You may know that this Tuesday, June 14, is Flag Day.  There are several Flag Day events in our area to commemorate the day.  But did you know that you have been asked to help out with the salute?  On Friday, President Obama issued a Presidential Proclamation declaring this week National Flag Week.  This is a responsibility that Congress placed on the President to annually issue a proclamation designating the week in which June 14 occurs as "National Flag Week".

In 1949, Congress designated June 14 of each year as "Flag Day" and requested that the President issue such an annual proclamation calling for its observance and for the display of the flag of the United States on all Federal Government buildings.

But that's not all.  In 1966, Congress added that the Presidential proclamation should also issue a call to all citizens of the United States to display the flag during National Flag Week.  So there is your chance to do your part help out this week.

As for some of the Flag Day events in our area, Saratoga Springs, Troy and Rotterdam are holding annual Flag Day parades.  A number of Flag Day ceremonies are being held as well, including those in Mechanicville-Stillwater, Clifton Park and Waterford.
