We were here once and I witnessed this with my own eyes.  To see it in person is so unbelievable - planes landing what seems to be inches away from tourists on Maho Beach in St. Maarten.  You have to see this

We were here during an island visit in coordination with a cruise we took.  Here's what one of the beaches looks like

Little do these unsuspecting swimmers know, they are about to encounter a jet landing so close to their craniums, they are not going to believe it.  Click on the video below to see actual footage.  We saw this with our own eyes. It is quite amazing (and frightening to see in person.

When they take off, it's even more spectacular.  The planes look like they are at a 90 degree angle trying to avoid the island and hitting the water.

This has become almost a tourist attraction on this island.  In fact, according to Wikipedia:

Watching airliners pass over the beach is such a popular activity that daily arrivals and departures airline timetables are displayed on a board in most bars and restaurants on the beach, and the Sunset Bar and Grill has a speaker on its outside deck that broadcasts the radio transmissions between pilots and the airport's control tower.[citation needed]

So book your next vacation in St. Maarten.  (Wouldn't you like to go there after this past winter?)
