Dollywood Park has announced that they will be adding a new roller coaster called the Lightning Rod!

This means that Dollywood will have the world’s fastest wooden roller coaster!  Dollywood, owned by country music legend Dolly Parton, will spend $22 million to build the roller coaster which is expected to open in 2016.

The Lightning Rod roller coaster will have 3,800 feet of track, a 90-degree banking wave turn, a 90-degree outside banked turn and a non-inverting half loop. IF that didn’t scare you enough, no worries, the ride can reach speeds of 73 mph.

Now, I am all about roller coasters, I’ve done “The Hulk” and “dueling Dragons” at Universal Studios, but something about plunging and spinning and banking at top speeds on almost 80 mph scared me a little bit!  Not that I won’t try it.

Have you been to Dollywood?  I’ve never been but I may just try it out next vacation!  Will you?
