If you just happen to be a San Francisco Giants fan living here in the Albany area, the World Series trophy that your team won will be on display at Joe Bruno Stadium, home of the Tri-City ValleyCats next Thursday, May 5th between 5-7.

The Giants won the World Series last November, beating the Texas Rangers in five games to win their first title since they were in New York in 1954. You may wonder why the trophy is coming to Troy seeing that the ValleyCats are a Houston Astros Affiliate. The Giants Franchise actually started in Troy. They were the Troy Trojans Back in 1879 as a charter member of the National League.   After the 1882 season, NL owners voted to move the franchise 135 miles south to New York City, where the team became the Giants. Some baseball historians say the removal was illegal because it violated the NL's charter.

A few month's ago the Troy Record started an online petition to bring the Trophy to Troy to "Right a wrong committed by Major League Baseball". Apparently that petition must have worked.

I am far from being a Giants fan. But I am a baseball fan and it would be really cool to get a up close glimpse at a World Series Trophy. Get there Early next week, it's first come first serve to get a glimpse and take some pictures.
